About us - Villa Raggi

The nearly millennial history of Villa Raggi originates from a temple dedicated to San Marziano, the first Bishop of Tortona in the 1st century AD during the Roman era.

In 1187, the current park of Villa Raggi was a large farmstead, dependent on the first Cistercian abbey in Italy at Tiglieto (GE), which was founded by monks from La Fertè in 1120.

In 1311, it was donated by Emperor Henry VII to the Abbot of Tiglieto, and in 1644, after the suppression of the abbey, its assets were first given in commendam by Pope Innocent X to Cardinal Lorenzo Raggi, and in 1648, in perpetual emphyteusis to the brother of the cardinal, Gian Battista.

The inscription above the entrance door of the current chapel of Villa Raggi recalls the inclusion of the chapel in Villa Raggi in 1685, the year of its completion.

Remained in the hands of the Raggi family until the early 1900s, the Villa was purchased in 2017 by the current owners and restored in every part with the love and care due to a property of great value.
